Karnataka’s Deputy CM, D.K. Shivakumar, has made it clear that despite the tragic stampede that claimed 11 lives at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during an IPL match, the games will continue to be held there. He emphasized the importance of the stadium to Bengaluru and Karnataka, calling it the pride of the city. Shivakumar assured that the government has learned from the disaster and will implement stricter security measures to prevent such incidents in the future. He also announced plans to build a larger alternative stadium on the outskirts of the city for hosting international and IPL cricket matches. Despite calls to move the IPL matches to a different venue, Shivakumar reiterated that the games will stay at Chinnaswamy Stadium. He expressed his commitment to upholding Bengaluru’s cricketing honor and ensuring opportunities for women’s cricket as well. The decision to retain the stadium as the home ground for RCB’s IPL matches reflects its significance in Karnataka’s cricketing identity.
