Suryakumar Yadav showed his aggressive batting skills on Sunday night, but it was Rohit Sharma’s return to form that brought the most joy to the Mumbai Indians camp at the Wankhede Stadium. Prior to the crucial game against Chennai Super Kings, Rohit had a lackluster IPL 2025 campaign, scoring only 82 runs in six innings and failing to make a significant impact despite being designated as an Impact Player for most of the season.
According to MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene, Rohit has a unique preparation method that doesn’t involve extensive batting in the nets. Instead, he worked closely with his former teammate Abhishek Nayar at the Mumbai Cricket Association’s facility at Bandra-Kurla Complex for the past month. This unconventional approach seemed to pay off as Rohit was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten 74 off 45 balls.
Despite Rohit’s struggles with his high-risk approach, the MI coaching staff allowed him to stay true to himself and play his natural game. Jayawardene praised Rohit for his consistent approach and team-oriented mindset, noting that his success on the field has a positive impact on the rest of the team.
Rohit expressed his gratitude towards Nayar in a social media post, indicating the importance of their partnership in his recent success. With Rohit finding his form again, the Mumbai Indians will be hoping for more match-winning performances from their captain as they look to secure a playoff spot in the IPL.
