Mumbai Indians have received a significant boost as star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been declared fit and available for selection ahead of their match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After being sidelined since January due to a stress reaction in his back, Bumrah has rejoined the squad and trained at full capacity at Wankhede Stadium. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed Bumrah’s availability for the upcoming game, stating that he has returned to training and should be ready to play.
Bumrah, who was MI’s leading wicket-taker in IPL 2024 with 20 wickets, is a crucial part of their bowling lineup. His return is timely as MI has suffered three losses in their first four games this season. Bumrah’s presence is expected to bolster the bowling unit, which includes young players like Vignesh Puthur, Ashwani Kumar, and Satyanarayana Raju.
During training, Bumrah bowled alongside Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner, impressing the coaching staff. Jayawardene emphasized the need for patience as Bumrah returns from injury, but expressed confidence in the player’s readiness. Bumrah’s availability is seen as pivotal for MI as they aim to turn their fortunes around in IPL 2025.
