Jason Gillespie, the former Australian fast bowler, has announced his resignation as the head coach of South Australia and the Adelaide Strikers. Despite having another season left on his contract, Gillespie decided to step down early following the Redbacks’ disappointing finishes in the Sheffield Shield and Marsh Cup this season.

Gillespie took over as coach of the Strikers before BBL|05 and led the team to their first championship victory in BBL|07. However, the Redbacks have consistently finished in the bottom half of the Sheffield Shield standings during Gillespie’s tenure, marking four consecutive seasons of underwhelming performances.

In a statement regarding his departure, Gillespie expressed pride in the achievements made during his time with the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) and gratitude for the support he received while coaching both the Strikers and Redbacks. He emphasized the bright future ahead for South Australian cricket and expressed excitement about exploring new opportunities in the sport.

Gillespie’s decision to resign comes as a surprise to many, considering his successful coaching tenure with the Strikers. However, he is now looking forward to the next chapter in his career and is eager to see where his journey in cricket will take him next.
