Delhi Capitals’ Donovan Ferreira has decided not to continue playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), while England all-rounder Will Jacks will rejoin Mumbai Indians for their final two league matches. Ferreira, a South African batter, has played only one game this season and has informed the Delhi Capitals management of his decision to opt out.
In Ferreira’s place, fellow South African Tristan Stubbs has joined the DC squad for the remaining three league matches. However, Stubbs, who is bound for the World Test Championship final, will be unavailable for the Playoffs if Delhi Capitals qualify. The availability of DC vice-captain Faf du Plessis is still uncertain.
For Punjab Kings, Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis will be joining the team but will miss the first game after the IPL resumes on May 18.
Meanwhile, MI batter Will Jacks has confirmed his return by sharing a photo of his flight ticket to Mumbai on Instagram. Like his compatriot Jos Buttler, Jacks will leave for national duty after completing Mumbai Indians’ last two league matches, as the IPL Playoffs clash with England’s white-ball series against West Indies starting May 29.
Mumbai Indians, currently in fourth place on the points table, need to win both remaining matches to secure a spot in the Playoffs. The IPL was halted for a week due to tensions between India and Pakistan, and it will resume on Saturday with the final now pushed back to June 3 to accommodate the international commitments of players from South Africa, England, Australia, and West Indies.
