Gujarat Titans fast bowler Ishant Sharma has been fined 25% of his match fee and received a demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The IPL stated that Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 and accepted the punishment handed down by the Match Referee. The Code of Conduct breach involved the abuse of cricket equipment or clothing during the match.
Sharma had a tough outing against SRH, conceding 53 runs in his four overs without taking any wickets. He was replaced after 13 overs of Gujarat Titans’ innings by Sherfane Rutherford. Despite Sharma’s struggles, Gujarat Titans managed to secure a victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad, marking their third win in four matches and placing them at No. 2 on the points table. This win also marked their third consecutive victory after a loss to Punjab Kings at the beginning of the season.
The IPL’s Code of Conduct is designed to maintain the integrity of the game and ensure fair play among all participants. Any breaches of the Code, such as the one committed by Ishant Sharma, are taken seriously and result in disciplinary action. Moving forward, Sharma will need to be more mindful of his conduct on the field to avoid further sanctions. The Gujarat Titans will be looking to continue their winning streak and maintain their strong position in the tournament standings.
