Indian billionaire Sanjiv Goenka, owner of IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants, recently acquired Aiden Markram in the IPL 2025 auction. Markram was purchased by Durban Super Giants for 14 million rand, making it one of the highest bids in SA20 history. Markram spoke to The Times of India about having the same owner in both IPL and SA20, stating that it ‘does help’ and allows for consistency and understanding of how people work together. He praised Goenka for his passion for the franchise and international cricket.
Apart from LSG and Durban, Goenka also owns ISL side Mohun Bagan and is an Indian billionaire and investor. In the Forbes 2025 list of India’s richest tycoons, he was ranked 65th with a net worth of 4.9 billion dollars. Goenka was previously involved in a controversy during IPL 2024 when LSG lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad and he was filmed confronting captain KL Rahul.
Overall, Goenka’s involvement in various sports franchises and his passion for cricket have been highlighted by Markram, who appreciates the opportunity to work with such a dedicated owner in both IPL and SA20 leagues.
