The IPL 2025 auction is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking only the second time the auction will be held outside of India. The previous auction was held in Dubai in 2024. Over the years, there have been several players who have fetched high prices in the IPL auctions.

In 2008, MS Dhoni became the most expensive player with a price tag of $1.5 million. The following year, in 2009, Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen both went for $1.55 million. In 2010, Shane Bond and Kieron Pollard were sold for $750,000 each. The trend of high-priced players continued in the subsequent years with Gautam Gambhir fetching $2.4 million in 2011 and Ravindra Jadeja being bought for $2 million in 2012.

Other notable players who have commanded high prices include Glenn Maxwell in 2013 for $1 million, Yuvraj Singh in 2014 and 2015 for Rs 14 crore and Rs 16 crore respectively, Shane Watson in 2016 for Rs 9.5 crore, Ben Stokes in 2017 and 2018 for Rs 14.5 crore and Rs 12.5 crore respectively, Jaydev Unadkat in 2019 for Rs 8.4 crore, Pat Cummins in 2020 for Rs 15.5 crore, Chris Morris in 2021 for Rs 16.25 crore, Ishan Kishan in 2022 for Rs 15.25 crore, and Sam Curran in 2023 for Rs 18.5 crore.

The most expensive player in an IPL auction so far is Mitchell Starc, who was bought for Rs 24.75 crore in 2024.
