The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where 182 players were selected by 10 teams. Rishabh Pant made history as the most expensive player ever in the league. Among the players shortlisted, 38 were from England, including uncapped cricketers like Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Leus Du Plooy, Ben Howell, and Michael Pepper. In total, 12 English cricketers were successfully bid for during the two-day auction.
Jos Buttler was the highest-priced English player, joining the Gujarat Titans for a whopping 15.75 crores. Phil Salt moved from Kolkata Knight Riders to Royal Challengers Bengaluru for 11.50 crores, while all-rounder Jofra Archer, despite limited recent match experience due to injury, was picked up by Rajasthan Royals for 12.50 crores. Other English players who found teams in the IPL were Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Moeen Ali, Will Jacks, Reece Topley, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, and Jamie Overton.
The auction showcased the high demand for English talent in the IPL, with several players fetching impressive sums. Buttler, Salt, and Archer were among the top picks, highlighting the value placed on their skills and experience in the T20 format. This year’s IPL promises to be an exciting season with the addition of these talented English cricketers to the various teams.
