The auction for the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to take place on December 15, with India being the likely host country, as per reports. The retention deadline for all ten franchises is November 15. Initially, there were talks of holding the auction in Abu Dhabi or other Gulf countries, but recent reports suggest that India will host the event for the first time since 2022, although the specific city is not mentioned.

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction is scheduled for November 27 in Delhi, marking the first mega auction in the tournament’s history. Notable players like Deepti Sharma and Laura Wolvaardt have been released by their respective franchises, while other World Cup heroes have been retained. Reigning champions Mumbai Indians and runner-up Delhi Capitals have retained five players each.

In the WPL retention rules, franchises can retain up to three capped Indian players, two overseas players, and two uncapped Indian players. Additionally, teams can use a right-to-match option to buy back a player from their 2025 squad. This upcoming auction is expected to be a significant event for both the IPL and WPL franchises.
