Rajeev Shukla, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president, announced that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will kick off on March 23. This revelation came during a media briefing following the BCCI’s general meeting on January 12. Additionally, key decisions were made regarding the administration of Indian cricket. Devajit Saikia will be taking over as the new BCCI secretary, replacing Jay Shah, while Prabhtej Singh Bhatia has been elected as the new BCCI treasurer.

The BCCI meeting also discussed the upcoming Champions Trophy squad announcement, scheduled to take place between January 18-19. Furthermore, the venues for the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) will be announced soon. In a separate review meeting, Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir addressed India’s recent poor performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where they suffered a 1-3 loss followed by a 0-3 clean sweep defeat at home to New Zealand.

The IPL 2025 mega auction, held in November last year in Jeddah, garnered significant attention with a total of 182 players being sold for a staggering ₹639.15 crore. Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history after being bought for ₹27 crore. Other notable players like Shreyas Iyer (₹26.75 crore) and Venkatesh Iyer (₹23.75 crore) also attracted substantial bids, while players such as David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, and Shardul Thakur went unsold.

In conclusion, the upcoming IPL season promises to be exciting with the confirmed start date and the mega auction setting the stage for an action-packed tournament. Stay tuned for more updates on the Champions Trophy squad announcement and the venues for the 2025 Women’s Premier League.
