The upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking the second time the auction will be held outside India. This year, a total of 574 players are included in the final pool of players up for grabs, with 48 capped Indians and 193 capped overseas players.
With 10 franchises already retaining 46 players, only 204 slots remain to be filled, as each team can have a maximum of 25 players in its squad. Additionally, each squad can include up to eight overseas players, leaving only 70 overseas spots available.
One of the key rules for this year’s auction is the reintroduction of the Right-to-Match (RTM) card. This allows teams that didn’t use their full quota of player retentions to retain some players from their previous squads by matching the highest bid placed on that player.
Furthermore, an accelerated auction process will take place after 116 players have been presented for bidding. The first phase will see franchises nominating players they want presented, followed by a second phase for unsold or unpresented players.
The auction will kick off with marquee players followed by capped players based on specializations like batters, all-rounders, and fast bowlers. Uncapped players will also be included before a second round of capped players.
The IPL 2025 auction is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM IST and will be broadcast live on the Star Sports Network with streaming available on the JioCinema app and website.
