The IPL 2025 mega auction was held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, where a total of 577 players were up for grabs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru made a significant impact by signing 22 players, including Liam Livingstone, Josh Hazlewood, and Tim David. Before the auction, RCB had retained Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal.
The RCB squad for IPL 2025 includes key players like Phil Salt, Jitesh Sharma, Rasikh Dar, and Krunal Pandya. Interestingly, Faf du Plessis, the former captain of RCB, was released ahead of the auction, leading to speculation about who would lead the team in the upcoming season. While there were expectations that local player KL Rahul might be chosen as captain, it is likely that Kohli will resume his role as the team’s leader.
Kohli previously captained RCB in 143 IPL matches from 2013 to 2021 before passing on the captaincy to Du Plessis. The team’s director of cricket, Mo Bobat, mentioned that no decision has been made regarding the captaincy for IPL 2025. With only Krunal Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar having brief stints as IPL captains in the current squad, Kohli’s return as captain seems probable. Stay tuned for more updates as the team prepares for the upcoming IPL season.
