The recent IPL mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia saw a record-breaking spending of Rs 639.15 crore over two days. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer emerged as the most expensive players, with 21 players being sold for Rs 10 crore or more, double the number from the previous auction. The modified Right-to-Match (RTM) rule played a significant role in influencing auction dynamics, allowing previous franchises to match the highest bid. Uncapped player Rasikh Salam Dar saw his base price multiply 20 times, being acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 6 crore. South African players were the most sought-after overseas players, with Australians closely following. The Karnataka State Cricket Association contributed the largest number of Indian players sold in the auction. Venkatesh Iyer’s re-signing by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 23.75 crore raised eyebrows, with the team’s CEO defending the decision to maintain their core team. The demand for all-rounders decreased due to the Impact Player rule, resulting in fewer all-rounders being sold and a decrease in spending on them compared to the previous auction.
