Hardik Pandya, the captain of Mumbai Indians, made history during an Indian Premier League match against Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025 by becoming the first captain to take a five-wicket haul. The match took place at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, where Pandya achieved this feat. His five-wicket haul was completed when he got Akash Deep out in the last over of the first innings.

Pandya’s impressive bowling performance began with the dismissal of LSG’s key batsman, Nicholas Pooran. He then went on to take the wickets of Rishabh Pant, Aiden Markram, and Miller before securing his fifth wicket. The right-arm pacer finished with figures of five for 36, marking his first IPL fifer. This also became the second five-wicket haul of the season. Pandya’s previous best bowling performance in an IPL game was three for 17 against Rajasthan Royals in 2022.

Prior to Pandya’s achievement, the best bowling figures by a captain in an IPL match belonged to Anil Kumble of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Kumble had taken four wickets for 16 runs against Deccan Chargers in 2009. Pandya’s record-breaking performance has now set a new benchmark for captains in IPL matches.

Overall, Pandya’s exceptional bowling display and historic five-wicket haul have solidified his position as a top performer in the IPL, showcasing his skills and capabilities as a leader and player.
