Peter Handscomb has been brought in to the Melbourne Stars team for the Big Bash League finals in place of Test player Beau Webster. Webster is set to join a training camp in the UAE and then head to Sri Lanka for the Test series, making Handscomb available for selection in the knockout final against the Sydney Thunder. Known for his prowess against spin, Handscomb was considered unlucky to miss out on the Sri Lanka squad and is seen as a valuable addition to the team for the spin-friendly ENGIE Stadium clash.

Handscomb, who previously played for the Melbourne Renegades, has returned to the Stars after last season’s emergency call-up. He expressed his excitement to be back with the team and is prepared to contribute if needed, as the Stars aim to continue their successful run in the tournament. Webster, who played a key role in the Stars’ five-game winning streak, helped secure their spot in the finals with a crucial innings against Hobart Hurricanes.

Meanwhile, the Sydney Thunder will also be without opener Sam Konstas, who is joining Webster in the Test squad. This leaves a vacancy at the top of the order, with Matthew Gilkes or Ollie Davies likely to step in as David Warner’s opening partner for the upcoming match.
