During the IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans, Shreyas Iyer was left stranded on 97 runs at the end of Punjab Kings’ innings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Despite his impressive performance, Shashank Singh stole the spotlight by smashing 44 runs off just 16 balls, including a 23-run last over where he did not give Iyer the strike.

Iyer’s unbeaten innings of 97 runs off 42 balls, which included nine sixes and five fours, marked his highest score in the tournament. However, he fell just short of his maiden IPL century. In a surprising turn of events, Shashank revealed during a mid-innings interview that Iyer had instructed him to focus on scoring freely and not worry about reaching the century milestone.

In the 19th over, Iyer selflessly gave the strike to Shashank off the fifth delivery, allowing his partner to take a single off the last ball to retain strike for the final over. Punjab Kings concluded their innings with a formidable total of 243 for five, their second highest score in IPL history.

Despite Iyer’s valiant effort, he fell just short of a century but his partnership with Shashank was crucial in setting up a commanding total for Punjab Kings in the match against Gujarat Titans. The duo’s performance showcased their teamwork and selflessness on the field.
