During IPL 2025 matches, symbols of green trees were displayed on the score graphics for every dot ball as part of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s green initiative. The BCCI, in collaboration with the Tata Group, pledged to plant 500 trees for each dot ball bowled in the Indian Premier League.
This initiative is not new, as the board had previously undertaken similar efforts in the past two seasons. For instance, during the 2023 season, the Qualifier 1 match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans resulted in 84 dot balls being bowled, leading to the planting of 42,000 saplings. BCCI secretary Jay Shah shared this information on Twitter following the game.
By incorporating symbols of green trees into the score graphics, the BCCI aims to raise awareness about environmental conservation and the importance of sustainability. This initiative not only promotes a green environment but also encourages players and fans to be more conscious of their ecological footprint.
Through partnerships with organizations like the Tata Group, the BCCI hopes to make a significant impact on the environment and inspire others to take similar initiatives in their respective fields. By planting trees for every dot ball bowled, the IPL is not only entertaining cricket fans but also contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.
