The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering expanding the Indian Premier League (IPL) to feature 94 matches each season from 2028. The idea is to have every team play against each other on a home-and-away basis. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed discussions with the International Cricket Council (ICC) about the proposed expansion. However, there are no plans to increase the number of teams in the tournament, as ten teams are deemed sufficient for now. Dhumal expressed satisfaction with the growth of the IPL over the years and hopes for continued success in the future. The 2025 IPL season has been competitive, with teams like Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings performing well. Dhumal expressed a desire for a team that has never won the tournament to lift the trophy this year. Overall, the aim is to create maximum value for stakeholders and continue the growth and success of the IPL.
