Fakhar Zaman, the Pakistan opening batter, has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025 after sustaining an oblique injury during the tournament opener against New Zealand. Pakistan has named Imam-ul-Haq as his replacement. Zaman had to leave the field early in the match against New Zealand after injuring himself while fielding. He later returned to the field but struggled with running between the wickets and could not open the innings as a result of the injury. Pakistan fell short in their chase of 320 runs in the opener, losing by 60 runs. Imam-ul-Haq, who last played for Pakistan in 2023, has been chosen as Zaman’s replacement. He has played 72 ODIs and scored 3138 runs at an average of 48.27. Pakistan’s next match is against arch-rivals India on February 23, followed by their final Group A game against Bangladesh on February 27.
