In the BBL qualifier final, Sixers player Jack Edwards made an incredible catch to dismiss Hurricanes star Matthew Wade, leaving the Bellerive Oval crowd in awe. The catch, described as the “catch of the summer,” stunned commentators and even Wade himself. The Hobart franchise was cruising at 1-61 when Wade hit a delivery towards Edwards at backward point. Edwards leaped to his right and grabbed the ball, preventing it from reaching the boundary.
Commentators praised the catch, with Mark Howard calling it a stunning moment that would amaze viewers worldwide. Mark Waugh and Adam Gilchrist also expressed disbelief at the remarkable catch. Edwards’ teammate Kurtis Patterson commended his fielding skills, describing him as a fantastic fielder with “huge buckets for hands.”
This impressive catch by Edwards is reminiscent of a similar catch taken by Mackenzie Harvey off the bowling of Mitch Perry in Perry’s first BBL over back in 2021. Howard had also marveled at that catch, showcasing Perry’s talent early in his career. The catch by Edwards against Wade further solidified his reputation as a top fielder in the league.
