Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi has been suspended for his team’s upcoming match against Gujarat Titans due to accumulating five demerit points. Additionally, he has been fined 50% of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during a recent game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The incident took place during the eighth over of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s chase, with Abhishek Sharma playing aggressively and scoring 59 runs off just 19 deliveries. With Sunrisers comfortably positioned at 99/1, LSG captain Rishabh Pant brought in Rathi to break the partnership. Rathi succeeded in getting a wicket, but his actions afterward overshadowed the moment.

As Abhishek was walking back to the pavilion, Rathi gave him a heated send-off, staring intensely at him. This gesture provoked Abhishek, who then confronted the spinner. The exchange of words between the two players led to the umpire and LSG fielders intervening to separate them.

Abhishek was also penalized for his reaction, receiving a 25% fine on his match fees. Both players’ behavior during the on-field altercation was deemed unacceptable and in violation of the IPL Code of Conduct.

The disciplinary actions against Rathi and Abhishek highlight the importance of maintaining sportsmanship and respecting the spirit of the game, even in high-pressure situations. Such incidents serve as a reminder to all players to uphold the values of fair play and mutual respect on the cricket field.
