In a 2019 IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, former CSK captain MS Dhoni found himself in the middle of a controversy during a thrilling finish. Chasing 18 runs in the final over, CSK lost Dhoni on the third ball, leading to confusion when a waist-high full toss was initially called a no-ball but then overruled by the square-leg umpire. Visibly furious, Dhoni stormed onto the field to confront the umpires, a rare act for a captain. Despite his protest, the decision stood, but CSK managed to secure victory thanks to Mitchell Santner’s last-ball six. Dhoni was fined for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct, marking one of the most controversial moments in his career. Reflecting on the incident years later, Dhoni admitted it was a “big mistake” and advised others to keep their emotions in check when frustrated. Despite no longer being the captain, Dhoni continues to play a crucial leadership role for CSK and is set to return to action in the 2025 IPL season under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, with their first match against Mumbai Indians on March 23.
