Devdutt Padikkal has joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore elite by becoming only the second Indian player, after Virat Kohli, to surpass the 1000-run mark for the franchise in the IPL. Padikkal achieved this milestone during RCB’s dominating nine-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. Returning to RCB this season after playing for Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants, Padikkal played a composed unbeaten innings of 40 runs to help chase down a target of 174. This innings took his total runs for RCB to 1,003 in 35 innings, with an average of 30.39 and a strike rate of 126.64.

Virat Kohli remains the only other Indian player to have achieved this feat for RCB, with an impressive record of 8252 runs in 258 matches, including 58 half-centuries and eight centuries. In the match against Rajasthan Royals, Philip Salt provided a strong start in the powerplay, while Kohli anchored the innings, guiding RCB to an easy victory. Padikkal’s return to RCB has been marked by a match-winning performance and a place in the record books.
