Matthew Mott, the former England white-ball coach, has been appointed as the assistant coach of the IPL franchise Delhi Capitals for the upcoming season. The 51-year-old Mott will be working alongside head coach Hemang Badani, a former Indian cricketer, who was appointed last October. Mott joins the Delhi Capitals’ support staff, which also includes director of cricket Venugopal Rao and bowling coach Munaf Patel.
Prior to joining Delhi Capitals, Mott had a successful stint with the Australian women’s cricket team, leading them to two T20 World Cups, one ODI World Cup, and four Ashes series wins over seven years. He then went on to become the England men’s team white-ball coach in 2022, before stepping down in July last year after guiding them to the T20 World Cup title in Australia.
Mott brings a wealth of experience to the Delhi Capitals, having previously served as the assistant coach of Kolkata Knight Riders during the first two seasons of the IPL. The franchise has made significant changes to their coaching staff ahead of the new season, with Badani replacing Ricky Ponting as head coach and Munaf Patel taking over from James Hopes as the bowling coach.
Delhi Capitals, who are still in search of their maiden IPL title, will kick off their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Visakhapatnam on March 24. With a strong coaching staff in place, the team will be looking to make a mark in the upcoming season of the IPL.
