Prithvi Shaw, once hailed as a wunderkind in Indian cricket, faced a major setback during the recent IPL 2025 auction when all 10 franchises ignored him. Shaw’s career began on a high note, winning the U-19 World Cup as a captain and earning comparisons to cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, and Virender Sehwag. However, his journey took a downward turn due to off-field controversies and poor performances.
Despite being retained by Delhi Capitals in 2022 for a hefty sum, Shaw’s form declined, leading to his eventual release from the franchise. At the recent mega auction, Shaw went unsold even after being presented at a base price of INR 75 lakh. Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal acknowledged that Shaw needed this “jolt” to shake him out of his slump. Jindal highlighted the pressure Shaw faced from being compared to cricketing legends and urged him to focus on his fitness and discipline to bounce back from this setback.
Jindal emphasized the importance of Shaw rediscovering his love for the game and returning to form. He acknowledged the talent and potential Shaw possesses but stressed the need for hard work and dedication to reclaim his status as a promising cricketer. As Shaw navigates this challenging period in his career, Jindal remains hopeful that he will rise above this low point and regain the form that made him a standout player in the past.
