Former Australian cricketer David Warner has signed a two-year deal with the Sydney Thunder for the upcoming 14th edition of the Big Bash League. Warner, who recently retired from international cricket, will be wearing the lime green jersey once again this season, providing a significant boost to the western Sydney club. Warner expressed his excitement about rejoining the Thunder, praising the team’s environment and energy from the previous season. He is determined to help the team improve and achieve better results this year.

With ten games under his belt for the Thunder since his debut in the Big Bash League in 2011, Warner has scored 301 runs at an average of 37.62. He notably scored the Thunder’s first century in the BBL during the inaugural season against the Sydney Sixers. Warner will be joining forces with England’s Sam Billings, rising star Ollie Davies, and former Test opening partner Cameron Bancroft at the Thunder this season. After the BBL season concludes in January, Warner will be heading to the United Arab Emirates to play for the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20.

Despite finishing at the bottom of the BBL standings last season, Warner is optimistic about the team’s performance this year. He believes the squad’s talent and camaraderie will help them achieve better results. Warner’s return to the Thunder coincides with other Australian Test stars signing multi-year deals with their respective BBL franchises. The Thunder’s General Manager, Trent Copeland, expressed excitement about Warner’s return, highlighting his experience and commitment to the team. Warner’s presence is expected to boost fan engagement and excitement for the upcoming BBL season.
