Australian Test skipper Pat Cummins has signed with the Sydney Thunder as a marquee supplementary player, potentially making a cameo in this season’s BBL. Cummins, who last played in the BBL during the 2018/19 season, is set to return once his Ashes commitments are over.
The Thunder have matches scheduled for January 10, 12, and 16, providing Cummins with an opportunity to join the team for their run towards the finals. Although he is not part of the 18-man squad, Cummins could be included if he becomes available. His fellow Test teammate Mitchell Starc has also signed a similar deal with the Sydney Sixers.
Cummins expressed his excitement about joining the Thunder, emphasizing his connection to Western Sydney. Despite limited time on the ground due to the Ashes series, Cummins is looking forward to supporting the team and contributing to their success. With his previous record of taking 17 wickets in 16 matches for the Thunder, Cummins would be a valuable addition to the team.
Thunder general manager Trent Copeland praised Cummins’ ongoing commitment to the club, highlighting the positive impact he has had in previous seasons. While Cummins is currently focused on the Ashes series, the door remains open for him to play in the BBL and prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Overall, Cummins’ potential return to the BBL adds excitement for fans and teammates alike, as they anticipate his contribution to the Thunder’s campaign.
