MS Dhoni has returned as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury. However, former India batter Robin Uthappa warns against expecting Dhoni to single-handedly solve all of CSK’s issues. The team is currently struggling in the ninth spot on the points table with just two points and four consecutive losses. Uthappa suggests that someone needs to step up to fill Gaikwad’s shoes as a batter, proposing Rahul Tripathi as a potential replacement at No.3.

With Gaikwad ruled out, Uthappa believes the road ahead will be challenging for CSK. He questions who will replace Gaikwad and how they will perform, also pondering if Sam Curran will make a comeback. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed Gaikwad’s absence from the tournament due to an elbow injury sustained during a match against Rajasthan Royals. Dhoni last led CSK to victory in 2023, passing the captaincy to Gaikwad in 2024. The team faces an uphill battle to revive their campaign and turn their fortunes around in the IPL.
