Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have found a replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad in 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre. Gaikwad was ruled out of the ongoing IPL 2025 due to an elbow injury, leading to speculation that Prithvi Shaw could be called up. However, CSK decided to bring in Mhatre, who will join the squad for the remainder of the season.

Mhatre won’t be able to play in the next match against Lucknow Super Giants but will be available for selection against Mumbai Indians on April 20. He impressed during trials in Chennai and is highly regarded in Mumbai cricket circles. Mhatre has shown promise in first-class and List-A matches, making his debut in October 2024.

With Gaikwad out, uncapped player MS Dhoni is leading CSK, but the team has been struggling, especially in the batting department. CSK’s coach, Stephen Fleming, addressed the team’s batting failures and emphasized the importance of balance between bat and ball in cricket.

CSK will be looking to turn their fortunes around with Mhatre’s inclusion and Dhoni’s leadership as they aim to climb up the points table in the IPL 2025 season.
