Chennai Super Kings is reportedly close to finalizing a deal with Rajasthan Royals to acquire the talented batsman Sanju Samson. In exchange, CSK will be parting ways with their former captain and star player, Ravindra Jadeja, who originally started his IPL career with the Royals. Both Samson and Jadeja were retained by their respective franchises before the mega auction last year.
After a disappointing season in 2025, where they finished at the bottom of the standings with only four wins, CSK is looking to revamp their squad for the upcoming year. Their main issue has been a lack of firepower in the batting department, and acquiring Samson is seen as a crucial step in addressing this weakness.
The Royals have reportedly asked for an additional player as part of the deal, despite CSK’s initial preference for a straight swap between Samson and Jadeja, both valued at Rs. 18 crore. Jadeja made a name for himself in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008 with Rajasthan, where he played a significant role in their title victory.
Jadeja later joined CSK in 2012 and has been instrumental in their successes in 2018, 2021, and 2023. On the other hand, Samson has been with RR since 2013, with a brief stint at Delhi Capitals before returning to the Royals in 2018. He took over as captain in 2021 and led the team to the finals in 2022.
The deal between CSK and RR is still in negotiation, with both sides looking to come to a mutually beneficial agreement. Published on Nov 09, 2025.
