Chennai Super Kings’ head coach, Stephen Fleming, expressed frustration after the team’s third consecutive loss in the ongoing IPL due to failed run-chases. Fleming acknowledged the team’s struggles in chasing targets and highlighted the need for better batting performances, especially from the top order. He emphasized the importance of having players in form in the top three or four positions to set a strong foundation for power-hitters to capitalize on.

In their recent match against Delhi Capitals, CSK fell short by 25 runs while chasing 184 runs. Despite making changes in the batting lineup by bringing back Devon Conway in place of Rahul Tripathi, the move did not pay off as Conway was dismissed for a slow 13 runs in the final over of the PowerPlay. Fleming hinted at the possibility of Ruturaj Gaikwad returning to the opening position if the team continues to struggle at the start of innings.

Fleming admitted that the team has been too aggressive in the PowerPlay this season and believes that experienced players can adapt and adjust their approach better in challenging conditions. Despite facing criticism for favoring experience over youth, Fleming defended the team’s strategy, citing the success it has brought in the past with five IPL titles. He stressed the importance of consistency and problem-solving abilities that experienced players bring to the table. Fleming remains confident in the team’s ability to bounce back and turn their fortunes around in the tournament.
