Chennai Super Kings has issued a statement addressing the controversy surrounding the signing of Dewald Brevis as an injury replacement during the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise clarified that they followed all the rules and regulations of the IPL during the signing process. Brevis, who was unsold during the mega auction, was signed by CSK for Rs. 2.2 crore to replace injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh.

Speculation arose when R. Ashwin suggested that CSK had paid “extra” to beat other teams in signing Brevis. However, CSK defended their actions by referring to clause 6.6 of the IPL Regulations 2025-27, which limits the League Fee for replacement players.

Brevis proved to be a valuable addition to the team, scoring 225 runs in six innings with a strike rate of over 180. He also impressed while playing for the Proteas, scoring a quick century against Australia.

In conclusion, Chennai Super Kings maintains that their signing of Dewald Brevis was done in accordance with the rules of the IPL, and they are pleased with the impact he has had on the team.
