Yuzvendra Chahal is set to make a return to Northamptonshire for the 2025 County Championship and One-Day Cup after his stint with Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. The leg-spinner will join the English County side for the second time, with his availability for the County Championship Division Two campaign starting from June 22. Chahal will miss the first seven matches as he will be participating in the IPL from March 22 to May 25.
His return to county cricket aligns with India’s five-Test series in England, which commences on June 20. Despite not being in India’s current Test plans, Chahal had a successful stint with Northamptonshire in 2024, claiming 19 wickets in four County Championship matches and impressing in the One-Day Cup.
Northamptonshire head coach Darren Lehmann expressed excitement over Chahal’s return, praising his experience and impact on the team. Chahal, who became the most expensive spinner in IPL history with an ₹18 crore bid in the auction, will resume action for Punjab Kings on March 25. Chahal expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining Northamptonshire, emphasizing the camaraderie within the team and their goal of achieving success in the upcoming season.
