Hilton Cartwright has been cleared of serious injury after a fielding mishap during the BBL season-opener between Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers. In the 13th over of Scorchers’ chase, Cartwright attempted to prevent a boundary and injured his neck in a dive towards the rope. He was stretchered off the field but has been cleared of any serious damage to his neck. Cartwright, who plays for Western Australia, is a key player for the Stars and his return to play will be determined once he rejoins the squad in Melbourne. Despite the scare, Cartwright received warm applause from the crowd and his absence will be felt in the upcoming game against Brisbane Heat. Cartwright, who has been in strong form in the domestic season, retired during a Shield match to be present at the birth of his second child. The cricket community has expressed their concern for Cartwright’s well-being, with coach Adam Voges wishing him a speedy recovery.
