The BBL match between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers in Coffs Harbour was abandoned due to heavy rain. The game was called off just over an hour after it was supposed to start, with no play taking place. The point each for the no result put Sixers three points ahead of Perth Scorchers, who were set to play Sydney Thunder later that day.

Despite beating Sixers in last season’s final, Heat moved up to fifth place with the point from the abandoned match. The rain had been falling over the venue for hours, disappointing the fans who had turned up to watch the game. Michael Neser was set to make his comeback from injury for Heat, with wicketkeeper Tom Alsop also in the squad for his season debut.

Heat, who had lost three consecutive games before the washout, are scheduled to play Thunder in Brisbane next Monday. Sixers, who had won their first four matches before suffering their first loss, will face Melbourne Stars at the MCG on Thursday.
