The Big Bash Drafts have been rescheduled to June 19, nearly three months earlier than usual, in an effort to attract top overseas talent to the Australian T20 competition. Cricket Australia made the decision to address the issue of international players leaving the tournament midway due to conflicting commitments with other T20 leagues. By moving the Draft forward, CA aims to provide Big Bash clubs with more certainty in securing foreign players and enhancing the overall talent pool of the competition.
Alistair Dobson, CA’s general manager of Big Bash Leagues, expressed confidence that the earlier draft date would benefit the clubs in building competitive squads for the upcoming season. The draft order for both BBL|15 and WBBL|11 has been determined, with the Brisbane Heat obtaining the first pick in the men’s tournament and the Sydney Sixers securing the top spot in the women’s competition. The draft order is crucial in determining the selection of international and local players for the teams.
Overall, the rescheduling of the Big Bash Drafts is expected to bring in quality international talent and improve the competitiveness of both leagues. Teams like the Sydney Sixers are pleased with their drafting position and are looking forward to adding depth and overseas talent to their squads. The lottery system will dictate the order of selections in rounds one, two, and four, with round three being conducted in reverse order for both drafts.
