England’s cricket stars Ben Duckett and Sophie Ecclestone were highly sought after in the Big Bash Drafts, with Duckett signed as the No. 1 pick by the Melbourne Stars and Ecclestone by the Sydney Sixers. The Melbourne Renegades captured English batter Laurie Evans from the Perth Scorchers in the draft. The Hobart Hurricanes attempted to acquire Ecclestone in the WBBL Draft but the Sixers retained her with their pick.
Other notable picks included Jamie Overton, Rishad Hossain, Jafer Chohan, Orla Prendergast, and Keaton Jennings. Overton, a platinum contract holder for the Strikers, aims to bounce back from a recent form slump. Hossain, a promising Bangladesh spinner, caught the eye with his performances. Chohan, a young English leg-spinner, was a surprise pick for the Sixers. Prendergast, the first Irish cricketer signed in the Big Bash Draft, was recruited by the Adelaide Strikers. Jennings was a surprising choice for the Perth Scorchers due to his red-ball cricket background.
On the other hand, players like Alex Hales, Corey Anderson, Reece Topley, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Haris Rauf were left out in the draft. Hales, despite being a top run-scorer for the Sydney Thunder, was overlooked this year. Anderson and Topley, experienced players, also did not find a team. Kaur, a renowned Indian cricketer, went unsold, as did Rauf, the leading wicket-taker for the Melbourne Stars.
