Cricket Australia has confirmed that all-rounder Beau Webster and wicketkeeper Josh Inglis have been released from the Test squad to participate in Big Bash League matches for their respective franchises. This decision comes after the conclusion of the Boxing Day Ashes Test at the MCG, which ended in just two days due to a green wicket and reckless batting.

Australia’s players have been granted a seven-day break before the New Year’s Test in Sydney. Travis Head mentioned that it was unlikely for any first-choice players to play Big Bash cricket before the SCG Test against England.

Webster will join the Hobart Hurricanes for their match against the Melbourne Renegades, while Inglis will play for the Perth Scorchers against the Sydney Thunder. Both players are still in contention for selection in the fifth Ashes Test starting on January 4.

They will rejoin the Australian squad on New Year’s Eve to prepare for the SCG Test. If selected, Webster could make his first appearance for the Hurricanes in nine years, having previously played for the Melbourne Stars and Renegades.

Hobart is currently second in the Big Bash standings with three wins from four matches, while the Scorchers are fifth after two consecutive losses. The Melbourne Stars will face the Thunder at Manuka Oval on Sunday evening. Fans can catch all the action on FOX CRICKET, available on Kayo Sports.
