The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has implemented stricter protocols for the Indian cricket team following disappointing performances in recent series. In a document accessed by Hindustan Times, the BCCI revealed a 10-point diktat aimed at promoting discipline, unity, and a positive team environment.
One of the key measures introduced is the mandatory participation in domestic cricket for players to remain eligible for selection in the national team and for central contracts. This decision comes in response to criticism that mainstay batters like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma did not prioritize the Ranji Trophy, leading to a decline in batting performance in recent Test series.
The guidelines also restrict the presence of families with players during overseas tours, allowing only a two-week window for their stay. Players are required to travel with the team to and from matches and practice sessions, with no separate travel arrangements permitted. Additionally, players are expected to make themselves available for BCCI’s official shoots, promotional activities, and functions, but are not allowed to engage in personal shoots or endorsements during a series or tour to maintain focus on cricket and team responsibilities.
Furthermore, the BCCI has imposed restrictions on players taking individual staff, such as personal managers, chefs, assistants, and security, on tours unless explicitly approved by the board. Non-compliance with these protocols could result in strict disciplinary actions, including being barred from playing in the Indian Premier League.
According to the BCCI’s policy, any exceptions or deviations must be pre-approved by the Chairman of the Selection Committee and Head Coach. Failure to comply may lead to disciplinary action, such as sanctions against participating in BCCI tournaments or deductions from retainer amounts and match fees under BCCI player contracts. The board aims to maintain professional standards and operational efficiency while ensuring a focused and disciplined approach from players.
