The upcoming IPL auction is set to take place on December 16 in Abu Dhabi, with a unique twist this year due to the new “maximum fee rule” implemented by the BCCI. This rule ensures that no overseas player can be bought for more than Rs 18 crore, limiting their bids at the auction. This means that even big names in cricket will not be able to fetch a sum higher than the specified cap.
With 359 players shortlisted for the auction, including 244 Indians and 115 overseas players, the franchises have a pool of talent to choose from. However, with only 77 slots available, including 31 for overseas players, the competition will be fierce. Teams like Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad have the most spots to fill, with 13 and 10 slots respectively.
The absence of a marquee set for the auction means that the bidding war will kick off with capped batters like Cameron Green, Prithvi Shaw, and David Miller among others. Despite the limited budget for overseas players, the event promises to be an exciting affair with potential game-changing signings on the horizon.
