The 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to commence on March 28, with the final match scheduled for May 31. Originally planned to start on March 26, the tournament will now begin two days later, as confirmed by sources familiar with the developments. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was waiting for the Election Commission to announce dates for assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu before finalizing the schedule. Franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Rajasthan Royals are affected by the poll dates due to their home venues. The announcement of the IPL 2026 schedule may be divided into two parts as seen in previous seasons with elections. The Royal Challengers Bangalore’s home venue for the tournament opener is yet to be confirmed, with discussions ongoing within the IPL governing council. The 2025 season was won by RCB, defeating Punjab Kings in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
