Delhi Capitals have appointed all-rounder Axar Patel as their new captain for the upcoming 2025 Indian Premier League season. This decision came after Rishabh Pant was bought by Lucknow Super Giants during the 2025 auction. Axar has been with the franchise since 2019 and was one of the four players retained ahead of the auction, alongside Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abhishek Porel, for a sum of INR 18 crore.

The 31-year-old has been a standout performer for the Capitals, scoring 967 runs and taking 62 wickets in 82 matches with an impressive economy rate of 7.09. He has also been a key player for Team India across all formats. Axar expressed his gratitude for being named captain, stating that he is ready and confident to lead the team. The Capitals, who are yet to win an IPL title in 17 seasons, will begin their campaign on March 24 against Lucknow Super Giants in Visakhapatnam.

With players like KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis in the squad, the franchise is aiming for a successful season under Axar’s leadership. The team is excited to have a balanced and strong squad and is looking forward to the support of their fans.
