India head coach Gautam Gambhir criticized the authorities in Bengaluru for allowing mass celebrations without proper preparation, following a stampede that claimed 11 lives during IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s homecoming celebrations. Gambhir expressed his belief that roadshows should be avoided, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the safety and lives of people. He highlighted the overcrowding at the RCB felicitation event, where more than two lakh fans gathered despite the stadium’s capacity of only 35,000. Bengaluru was ill-equipped to handle such a large turnout, lacking necessary security measures and medical aid. Gambhir urged for more caution in organizing events to prevent tragic incidents like the stampede. RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association pledged financial support to the families of the deceased and injured fans. Gambhir reiterated his stance against roadshows, citing a past incident during his time as captain of KKR when celebrations led to chaos in Kolkata. He stressed the need to prioritize safety over extravagant celebrations.
