Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins is currently dealing with a back issue that has been affecting his availability for the upcoming T20 World Cup campaign. After missing the first two matches of the Ashes series, Cummins returned for the third Test against England, where he played a crucial role in helping Australia retain the Ashes urn. However, he has been sidelined for the final two matches to focus on his recovery.

Head coach Andrew McDonald has confirmed that Cummins will undergo scans in four weeks to determine his availability for the T20 World Cup. Despite being named in Australia’s 15-player squad for the tournament, there is a possibility that Cummins could be ruled out at the last minute depending on the scan results.

In addition to Cummins, McDonald also provided updates on seamer Josh Hazlewood and pinch-hitter Tim David, who are both nursing injuries. Hazlewood, who missed the Ashes due to hamstring and Achilles injuries, is on track to feature in the T20 World Cup as he continues his recovery and return to bowling.

Meanwhile, Tim David sustained a hamstring injury while playing for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League and underwent scans to assess the severity of the injury. McDonald remains optimistic about David’s availability for the T20 World Cup, regardless of the nature of the injury.

Australia’s T20 World Cup campaign is set to begin on February 11 in Colombo, and the team is closely monitoring the fitness of key players like Cummins, Hazlewood, and David as they prepare for the tournament.
