Indian cricket star Ravichandran Ashwin will miss this year’s Big Bash League due to a knee injury, as confirmed by the Sydney Thunder. The 39-year-old was signed by the Thunder in a historic deal, making him the first high-profile Indian player in the Australian T20 tournament. Unfortunately, Ashwin underwent surgery after injuring his knee during training in Chennai, forcing him to sit out the entire tournament.
Expressing his disappointment, Ashwin stated, “I’m gutted to miss BBL|15. My focus now is recovery and coming back stronger. I’m grateful to the Thunder family and the fans for their support.” He also mentioned his desire to be around the team later in the season if possible. In an open letter to Thunder fans, Ashwin pledged to watch every game and cheer for both the men’s and women’s teams from afar.
Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland expressed his sadness over Ashwin’s injury but remains hopeful of a future partnership with the player. Despite the setback, the Thunder are confident in their championship-contending squads for both the WBBL|11 and BBL|15 seasons. They look forward to returning to Western Sydney for what promises to be an exciting campaign.
