Several of Australia’s Ashes-winning Test players will be making their return to the BBL starting from January 10. However, three players, Scott Boland (Melbourne Stars), Travis Head (Adelaide Strikers), and Cameron Green (uncontracted), will not be participating in the competition. These three players played in all five Ashes Tests and will be taking a short break for recovery, with Green currently unsigned as he manages his workload post back surgery.
The remaining members of the Ashes squad will be available for selection from Saturday onwards, including players like Alex Carey, Steve Smith, and Usman Khawaja. Michael Neser (Brisbane Heat) and Mitch Starc (Sydney Sixers) will have a short break before returning between January 14 and 16.
The BBL general manager, Alistair Dobson, expressed delight in having Australian Test players join the competition and thanked them for their commitment. Cricket Australia’s general manager, Ben Oliver, mentioned that the focus for the group will now be on preparing for the T20 World Cup.
Players returning from January 10 onwards include Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Todd Murphy, Steve Smith, Jake Weatherald, and Beau Webster. Meanwhile, Michael Neser and Mitch Starc will be returning between January 14 to 16. Lastly, the players not returning to the BBL are Scott Boland, Travis Head, and Cameron Green.
