AM Ghazanfar, the mystery spinner for Afghanistan, has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to a fracture in his L4 vertebra. This comes as a big blow for the team as Ghazanfar was a replacement for Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the squad for the tournament. Mujeeb, who has been dealing with previous injuries, was not named in the original squad either. Ghazanfar sustained the injury during Afghanistan’s recent tour of Zimbabwe and will be sidelined for a minimum of four months. In his absence, left-arm spinner Nangeyalia Kharote has been included in the main squad. This injury is particularly disappointing for Ghazanfar as he had recently secured his maiden IPL contract with Mumbai Indians. Despite this setback, Afghanistan will still have a strong squad of spinners for the tournament, including Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Mohammad Nabi, and Kharote. The Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place from March 21 to May 25.
