Abhishek Nayar has returned to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) setup after being sacked as India’s assistant coach. The defending IPL champions shared a video on social media, showing Nayar in his first nets session with the team. In the video, Nayar is seen interacting with captain Ajinkya Rahane and head coach Chandrakant Pandit.

Nayar was initially brought into the KKR support staff by Gautam Gambhir after their successful 2024 T20 World Cup campaign. However, his tenure as India’s assistant coach was marred by a decline in the batting form of key players, leading to disappointing results for the team. Gambhir reportedly supported the BCCI’s decision to end Nayar’s contract prematurely due to performance concerns and a lack of rapport with senior team members.

Despite this, players like Varun Chakravarthy and Venkatesh Iyer credited Nayar for his role in KKR’s success in the previous season. Chakravarthy praised Nayar for building the team’s Indian core, while Iyer highlighted his hard work for the franchise.

Nayar’s return to KKR marks a new chapter in his coaching career, as he looks to make a positive impact on the team once again.
