AB de Villiers has expressed his desire to return to playing cricket in a more casual setting, away from the high-pressure environments of professional leagues like the IPL. The former South Africa captain retired from all forms of cricket in November 2021 to spend more time with his family and focus on charity and broadcasting projects.

In a chat with Melinda Farrell on her Youtube channel, de Villiers mentioned that his children are putting pressure on him to return to the game. He has three children – two sons, Abraham and John, and a daughter, Yente – who are keen on playing cricket with him. De Villiers hinted at playing “real cricket” outside of professional leagues, emphasizing that he wants to have fun and enjoy the game without the pressure of high-stakes competitions.

Despite facing challenges with his eyesight, particularly in his left eye, de Villiers is determined to get back on the field and play cricket for the sheer joy of it. He mentioned that he wants to avoid the pressure that comes with playing in professional leagues like the IPL and SA20, and instead focus on having a good time and relishing the game in a more relaxed environment.

De Villiers, known for his innovative and unconventional batting style that earned him the nickname ‘Mr 360’, has represented South Africa in 114 Tests, 228 ODIs, and 78 T20s. He holds records for the fastest 50, 100, and 150 in the ODI format, showcasing his exceptional talent and skill as a power-hitter.

While there is no confirmation of his return to cricket, de Villiers’ interest in playing again in a more casual setting reflects his love for the game and his desire to share that passion with his children. Whether he steps back onto the field remains to be seen, but his enthusiasm for playing cricket for fun and enjoyment is evident.
